Zoology & Research Centre
Government P.G. College Satna M.P
The Department of Zoology was established with the inception of the College in year 1958. Initially the Department offered under graduate and Post Graduate classes stated from 1966. Presently Department is being headed by Professor Shivesh Pratap Singh who has teaching experience of more than 38 years of U.G. and P.G classes. He is Ex. Chairman, Central Board of Studies, M.P. Higher Education Bhopal M.P & Ex. Chairman, Board of Studies A.P.S. University, Rewa (2014-2017). Presently he is also Member of Central Board of Studies, M.P. Higher Education Bhopal M.P for the NEP 2020 "Aquaculture" for syllabus of four years Degree course. He did D.Sc Degree in 2003 from Department of Zoology Government P.G. College Satna (Research centre) of A.P.S. University, Rewa. Prof. Singh has several academic honors and professional distinctions to his credit. He was Sectional Recorder, Animal Veterinary and Fishery Sciences Section of The Indian Science Congress Association Kolkata (W.B.) 2016-17 & 2017-18 (104th & 105th Sessions of the Indian Science Congress). Presently he is working as Secretary, Bhopal NASI Chapter, The National Academy of Sciences India; In-charge Central Regional Chapter of Zoological Society of India and General Secretary of Society of Life Sciences.
He has supervised 33 Ph.D (In Environmental Science & Zoology subjects) and 15 M.Phil (In Environmental Science subject) students for their research degree and currently 05 Ph.D scholars are working with him form M.G.G.VV, Chitrakoot and A.P.S. University, Rewa. Dr. Singh is Chief Editor of two Multidisciplinary Peer reviewed (U.G.C approved upto 2019) research Journals National Journal of Life Sciences and Life Science Bulletin. Dr. Singh also took active part in various Indian academic societies. He is fellow member of Academy of Environmental Biology, Zoological Society of India, Society for Science and Environment, Society of Bio-sciences, Society of Life Sciences, The Institute of Applied Sciences, Zoological Society of Kolkata and other academic societies.
Dr. Singh has got Appreciation award in 1997 from Society for Science and Environment and awarded by Gold medal in 1998, 2000, 2009 and 2012 from Zoological Society of India. Dr. Singh also awarded gold medal by ICCB & MSET and Indian Academy of Environmental Sciences in 2009 and 2012. He was awarded Devki Dutta Gold medal 2015 by The Academy of Environmental Biology at Mumbai. He was awarded G.D. Bhalerao Gold medal 2017 by Zoological Society of India at Barrackpore (W.B.) and Felicitation Award 2019 at Mandu (M.P.). Recently he was awarded ESW Best Scientist Award 2021 by Environment & Social welfare Society, Khajuraho (M.P.). He has completed two U.G.C. minor research projects on primate’s behaviour one in 1998 & other in 2008 as Principal Investigator and NASI-Tribal research project in year 2020 as Project Coordinator. He has also organised Seven National Seminars/symposiums/ workshops in Dept. of Zoology, Govt. P.G. College Satna (M.P.) sponsored by U.G.C., M.P.C.O.S.T, Higher Education, National Academy of Sciences India and M.P. Biodiversity Board. Dr. Singh has edited seventeen text books and practical books of Environment and Zoology based on M.P. unified B.Sc Annual and Semester pattern syllabus, published by Ram Prasad and Sons, Arun Prakashan and Hindi Granth Academy Bhopal. He has also edited three research books and published more than seven dozen research papers in reputed journals, proceedings and also attended and chaired a number of national and inter-national conferences and symposium.
In the department there are 6 sanctioned posts. Presently out of them Dr. Neerja Khare, Professor has 41 years of teaching experience & she also worked as In charge Principal for one year of our College, presently In Charge Departmental library of Zoology Dept. Dr. Rajeev Tiwari Associate Professor has also 33 years of teaching experience. He has written two books, published by Hindi Granth Academy, Bhopal and completed one UGC minor research project in year 1992. Apart from his assignment of teaching Dr. Tiwari was also worked as Regional Direcor, M.P. Bhoj Open University, Bhopal at Regional centre Satna. Dr. Pushpa Singh, Asst. Professor has 13 years of teaching experience, In charge of different committees of our College. Two guest faculty members Dr. Manoj Kumar Ahirwar and Dr. Mahesh Bhupati are also having good academic carrier and long teaching experience. All faculty members are actively engaged in research publication and participated & presented their research papers in International and National Seminars/ Conferences/ Workshops.
